All eyes on CM for appointment of new AG

Jabalpur, Jan 02: All eyes are set on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on when he would make recommendation for the appointment of a new Advocate General, to Governor Balram Jakhar in the wake of unexpected resignation by Advocate General and senior BJP leader Ravinandan Singh. Legal experts opine that the Chief Minister had the right for appointing a new Advocate General under section 165 of the Constitution.

He could either ask Singh to take back his resignation or make recommendation for a new Advocate General to Jakhar. However, he would have to take a decision in this regard soon. The mystery behind the resignation of Singh, a former MP, had yet not been resolved. Singh had claimed that he resigned to make way for another person and stressed that he would not withdraw his resignation. Political observers believe that some important reason must be behind Singh's decision. Some names doing rounds for the appointment to the post of Advocate General include Additional Advocate General (Jabalpur) RS Patel, Additional Advocate General (Indore) Ashok Kuntable, Additional Advocate General (Gwalior) SS Mishra, senior lawyers NS Kale, VS Shroti and Ravish Agrawal.
