Life threat to police officers by naxals

Bhopal, Mar 02: Perturbed with killing of his wife in a recent encounter at Dhiri village in Balaghat, a naxalite has vowed to eliminate a senior police officer to avenge the incident. The state police have been informed about a confidential meeting of naxalites held in Nagpur recently where the husband of slain woman naxal pledged to kill a top cop.

Woman naxal commandant Sunanda Bai was killed in exchange of fire between the police personnel and naxals at Dhiri village of Balaghat district on January 20. Though, the death was not confirmed soon after the gunfire but later pamphlets were recovered from Nagpur, which held Sunanda as martyr. The naxalites reportedly called a confidential meeting at Nagpur recently to chalk out strategies. During the meeting, pamphlets were also distributed naming the dead naxals leaders who were killed in police encounters. The pamphlets read the slain leaders as martyrs and contained inciting texts.

Sources informed that husband of slain leader, Rajesh during the meeting pledged to kill a senior police officer to avenge death of his wife. The state police have reportedly been informed about the meeting by their counterparts in Maharashtra. The cops were also informed about Rajesh’s vow wherein he pledged to eliminate a senior cop of Madhya Pradesh cadre. Anwesh Mangalam, Inspector General of Balaghat range said that the security in the area has been beefed up keeping the threat in view. Two companies of Special Task Forces (STF) would be deployed in Dhiri village. It should be noted here that the village wore deserted look after the threat by naxalites forcing several residents to vacate the place leaving their belongings.
