Kanyadan Yojana a boon for poor

Bhopal, May 03: Public Relations, Culture and Mineral Resources Minister Laxmikant Sharma has said that Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana a boon for the daughters of poor families in the state. Through this scheme, the state government has taken unto itself the responsibility of poor families.

Sharma was addressing a mass marriage function under Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana at Sironj in Vidisha district on Friday. On this occasion 218 couple tied the nuptial knot. Out of these, marriages of 45 couples were solemnised as per Islamic customs. Couples of all the communities got married under the same canopy. Sharma said that all the eligible families belonging to different religions are being extended help under Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana without any bias. He said that so far marriages of over 60,000 girls belonging to poor families have been solemnised under Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana. Benefits of this scheme are reaching every village. Marriages are solemnised free of cost under and as all necessary arrangements are made by the district administration. Every couple is provided assistance to the tune of Rs 6,000. Out of this amount, Rs 5,000 is spent on provision of household items and Rs 1,000 on the arrangements.

The Minister said that apart from assistance from the state government, voluntary organisations and distinguished citizens are also providing articles to the newly married couples. This goes to prove that Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana has got wide public support. The mass marriage function was also marked by attractive display of fireworks. Apart from articles worth Rs 5,000, the newly wed couples were also provided suitcases, water bags, watches and radio sets. Public Relations Minister Sharma said that functions under Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana would be held on a grand scale in future with people's cooperation. The function was also addressed by Sironj Nagar Palika's former chairman Santosh Chaure, Kapoor Chand Sahu, Raghunath Raghuvanshi, and Chief Executive Officer of District Panchayat ML Gaurav.
