Nobody should be sad over prosperity
Bhopal, May 04: Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar on Sunday claimed that efforts to control galloping inflation would succeed and nobody needs to be sad over India's prosperity and progress. The Governor’s remarks came in the wake of US President George Bush’s statement that increasing prosperity in India is pushing demand that is leading to higher food prices across the world.
Jakhar's remark was on United States President George W Bush's statement allegedly holding the Indian middle class responsible for the price rise. He was speaking at the arrival of the Science Express in the capital on Sunday. ''This year's food grain output in India is also as per expectation and measures launched for controlling the inflation would soon be materialized'' the Governor said, while addressing a function at the local Habibganj Station to welcome the Science Express under the aegis of the National Science and Technology Council.
Governor on the occasion lauded the joint venture (Science Express) of the Indian and German government and added that this would definitely boost the youth’s interest in science subject. Making few pertinent remarks on the occasion, Governor congratulated the Indian scientists for their worlds record effort of launching 10 satellites in the space recently. Commenting on the effort, he said that by persisting with our efforts, country would shortly be among the developed countries.
The controversial statement outrages the political parties in the country where they flayed the Bush’s ‘theory’. Bush while participating in an interactive session at Missouri (US) he said that 350 million strong middle class of India is more than the entire population of America. “And when we start getting wealth, we start demanding better nutritition and better food, and so demand is high, and that causes the prices to go up”. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also made few offending remarks on Indian middle class. Rice had attributed the recent global food crisis to the ‘apparent improvement’ in the diets of Indians and Chinese, and consequent food export caps. Both the remarks have already generated fierce retaliation from the mainline political parties like Congress, BJP and the CPM.
