DMAT likely to be deferred

Bhopal, Mat 05: The date for the Dental and Medical Entrance Test (DMAT) might have to be shifted further following the recent government decision of implementing the reservation quota in the private medical and dental colleges. The test for allotting seats in the private medical and dental colleges is scheduled for May 25. The Association of Private Medical Colleges of the State conducts the test.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has praised the recent state government decision of allotting reservation in the private medical and dental colleges. Parishad has claimed that the decision came following their contempt petition against the state government in the High Court. The state government was supposed to be present with its reply in the matter, which resulted in the hastily announcements of the reservation quota, said ABVP General Secretary. Parishad has demanded that the MP Professional Examination Board should conduct the proposed DMAT. Hitesh Shukla, General Secretary ABVP has said that HC earlier directed the state government for implementing the reservation in private medical colleges and conducting DMAT through government agency till March 2008. “We filed contempt petition when the directives were not followed” said Shukla.

He added that government has hastily announced the reservation but the implementation would take time and the DMAT might be delayed. One of the DMAT officials, pleading anonymity also confirmed that it is possible that the test date have to be shifted further due to this reservation. However he informed that they are yet to receive the copy of the order. However other top officials of DMAT were not available for comment.
