Status of women pathetic, no celebration
Bhopal, Mar 06: The social and economic status of women directly impinges on their freedom in real terms. In that context, we have nothing to celebrate this year, in the upcoming women’s day. A survey recently conducted by a UN agency in the state revealed that Madhya Pradesh which is one of the four largest states in North India, the literacy rate of female has dipped below one third of the total female population.
With a growth of 14.87 percent in the female literacy since 1991, females swinging at an overall of 39 percent literacy are still lagging far behind the 64 percent literacy rate of males. India having the largest population of non-school going working girls does not seems to have less to smile upon with figures like 47 percent female school enrollment, 17 percent women employees in government of Madhya pradesh. The figure from a recent survey shows that only 34 percent contraception is used. It poses a question about the right of making her choice by the women.
Kusum Mahadale, Women and Child Development Minister told that the government is taking ample pains to improve the condition of women in Madhya Pradesh. Referring to the Ladli Laxmi Yogna, Gaon Ki Beti Yojna and Janani Express Yojna, she said the government is doing the best it can do for the development of women. Right from providing them with free education, uniform allowances (raised to Rs 200 in the current budget), and bicycles to the girl students, the government is determined to raise the standard of women in the state. The government attempts needs to be praised but the as the speaking data poses a question and directs us that a lot is yet to be done. Plans are waiting to be implemented at the grass root level and woman is waiting to be treated as an equal.
