BJP in election mode, Cong lags behind

Bhopal, May 06: In election-bound Madhya Pradesh, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swung into election mode by attacking on Congress led UPA, while the state Congress has hardly got its campaign off the ground. Over the past one week, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the BJP have been busy attacking the Centre on price rise, and an alleged supply of substandard wheat and several other issues.

On the contrary, the Madhya Pradesh Congress is facing problems as the leaders are attacking each other. In recent development, district Youth Congress president Nasir Islam has launched an agitation for disciplinary action against former party MP and senior Congress leader Gufran-e-Azam, who had recently resigned from the post of PCC executive committee. In a letter in this connection, Nasir stated that stern action like his expulsion from the party should be taken against him. The letter has been handed over to State Congress President Suresh Pachauri and a copy has been sent to Union Minister and in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Affairs V Narayan Sami.

The BJP’s drive against Centre started last week with Chief Minister’s 24-hour fast. Later, the BJP organised dharnas and demonstrations at all district headquarters against the Manmohan Singh government’s alleged neglect of the state and poor people. The BJP would soon come up with signature campaign, to be followed by a nyaya yatra. There will be an indefinite fast if the Centre fails to resolve the state’s problems. Meanwhile, the Congress has also launched its own demonstrations. It is busy in chalking out strategy as how to counter the BJP. State Congress chief Suresh Pachauri is busy in touring and convening meeting of party leaders. Similarly, Election Campaign Committee Chairman Ajay Singh too is convening meetings of division level workers and leaders.
