P Nag gets Bhugol Bhusan award
Bhopal, Mar 07: Director National Atlus and Thematic Mapping Organisation and noted geographer P Nag was felicitated with Bhugol Bhusan award in the inaugural session of the IInd International Conference of the Deccan Geographical Society on Friday at the Barkatullah University. As many as 250 delegates including 8 research scholars from abroad would present their research papers on geography-Economy and Geography-Environment.
Nag the felicitation, while talking to the media said that changes are imminent and we should persist with developmental works according to the latest technology. He added that changes are absolutely imminent, as we have entered into the globalisation era. He stated that we should try to achieve sustainable growth without disturbing the environment. He has been felicitated for his significant contributions in the field of geography.
Sompal Shastri, Deputy Chairman MP Planning Commission, while addressing the conference discussed present status of the economy of the country. He stated that exports are continuously growing by 18-20 percent in the last few years and added that at the same time the imports are also growing with the similar rate. Shashtri said that its imports are not cause of concern as most of them are taking place in the industry and manufacturing sector, giving us the extra edge in the international market.
He pointed out the insufficient contribution of agriculture sector in the GDP, slow rate of industrilisation and devaluation of rupee, which is hampering the exports as causes of concern. Informing the corrective measures, he said that agricultural investment should improve and proper distribution of resources is necessary. As many as 216 research papers would be presented during various sessions. The other distinguished guests of the function were BU Vice Chancellor Bhupal Singh, Former Barkatullah VC Ram Prasad, University Registrar Sanjay Tiwari, Arvind Moolmani, and Deputy Chairman Deccan Geographical Society. Professor HS Yadav, co-ordinator of the event discussed various subjects selected for the conference.
