SIMI leaders sent for narco test

Bhopal, Apr 07: The Madhya Pradesh police along with three hardcore activists of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) on Monday reached Bangalore for their Narco test there. Meanwhile, police have arrested eight more SIMI activists from different parts of the state.

The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dhar, has last week permitted for the narco test to be conducted on Safdar Nagori, Kamruddin and Amil Pervez. The SIMI leaders would pass through Narco test on Tuesday. Two activists have been arrested on Monday from the neighbouring Sehore district; one was arrested from Indore Saturday night. The police have also recovered dairies with names of their other associates from the SIMI activists, Saeed and Kareem, arrested from Sehore.

Sehore SP Rajendra Prasad said, “Two SIMI activists have been arrested on the clues provided by those arrested in Indore and Dhar and we are finding out more about their activities. On the basis of the documents and diaries seized from them it can be said that they were active members of the organization.” In Indore also one more SIMI activist Naved Irfan has been arrested Saturday night. "Naved has been working as a Service engineer at a show room in Bhopal and was in constant touch with the SIMI leaders for whom he has been working", the police said.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing crackdown against banned SIMI, five suspected activists of the outfit were detained by police for interrogation here on Monday. They were detained following questioning of arrested SIMI leaders, sub divisional police officer (SDOP) Awdhesh Pratap Singh told. The police arrested one more SIMI activist from Indore for allegedly indulging in illegal activities and aiding anti-national elements. The arrested SIMI worker was identified as Naved Irfan, police said, adding he was arrested from Khajrana area of the city.

Thirteen top SIMI leaders, including its former chief Safdar Nagori, were arrested from a house in Indore on March 27 where they were holed up to conduct the meeting of the banned outfit.  Since then over a dozen SIMI workers have been arrested from different cities in the state. So far, police have arrested about 50 SIMI activists and supporters from various parts of Madhya Pradesh including 22 from Indore and five from Jabalpur.
