Monitoring of water quality in the rural areas

Bhopal, Jan 08: A programme has been started for inspection of water resources and monitoring of water quality in the rural areas in all the districts. Under this programme field kits would be provided to all village Panchayats. The work of water testing of water resources and monitoring of its quality would be undertaken at the Panchayat level with public participation. Public Health Engineering Department has started implementation on this scheme and field kits are being provided to village Panchayats.

As many as 2.35 lakh virus testing vials and 5520 multi-parameter water testing kits have so far been made available to districts. Under this programme, five persons are being trained in every Panchayat. Training is being imparted at district as well as block levels. Earlier, state and divisional level training had been imparted. Cooperation of other concerning departments is also being taken in the implementation of the scheme. Awareness is also being spread among the people through educative, communicative and training methods about the importance of maintaining quality of water and saving water resources from pollution.

Some of the samples of water taken at Panchayat level would be tested at the district level at departmental laboratory while some others would be tested at the state level. Union government is extending financial cooperation for the implementation of the programme. Honorarium to the field workers, amount for maintenance of kit and recurring expenditure on small water treatment would be managed through public participation. This programme has been implemented throughout the state.
