Three of a family run over by train

Bhopal, Apr 08: Three-woman members of a family including a 14-month-old girl child were killed while one sustained grievous injuries when a speeding train ran over them near the Mandideep railway station on Tuesday morning. The incident was reported when a mentally challenged woman of the family after alighting from a train started running towards the speeding Tamil Nadu express, which was coming from Bhopal.

Police have registered a case and started investigating the matter. According to the police, deceased Urmila (23) wife of Padam Singh was a resident of the satellite town Mandideep Township. She reportedly was said to be possessed and at the time of the incident her in-laws were bringing her back from Jhansi after seeking blessings of a seer.

After alighting from train at the Mandideep railway station, the family members were on their way to get out of station, when Urmila after listening the whistle of Tamil Nadu Express suddenly went out of control and started running towards the train.  In a bid to save her, Vimla (30), her sister in law who was also carrying Urmila’s daughter along with her mother Teju Bai (45) ran behind Urmila to stop her. However, before duo could halt her, the speeding train mowed Urmila down, killing her on the spot. Vimla along with Urmila’s daughter were also killed on the spot while Teju Bai sustained grievous injuries in the mishap. Later, Teju Bai was admitted to a hospital where her condition remained critical till the evening.
