State govt neglecting farmers: Congress
Bhopal, Jan 09: The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Wednesday charged the BJP-ruled state government of neglecting drought-affected farmers and said the party would convey problems of farmers to the Prime Minister. State Congress President Subhash Yadav told reporters that more than 150 tahsils in the state were drought-affected. The peasants were facing troubles due to damage to crops.
Yadav alleged that the government had taken no step to provide help to these agriculturists. The Congress has taken the responsibility to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh so that peasants could get a relief package. The party has appointed in charge in 37 districts to assess drought situation. Congress Secretary Bhola Pandey, who is also party farmer and agricultural labourer cell in charge, said the public was fed with corruption in the BJP Government. There was no one to hear problems of farmers and society.
He said power crisis was hurting peasants but the BJP, which made tall promises to people, was not taking any steps. The centrally-sponsored schemes were also in bad shape. Pandey said the Congress would raise these issues among people and work within its limit to help people. He said a seven-point memorandum for the Chief Minister was submitted to officers demanding relief for farmers and poor sections, providing adequate power, waiving electricity bills and making available quality seeds and fertiliser to farmers.
