Irregularities in electoral rolls alleged

Bhopal, May 12: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Suresh Pachauri alleged that widespread irregularities in electoral rolls have been done due to the political pressure and an intensive investigation shall be initiated in this regard.

A delegation lead by Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Suresh Pachouri met the Chief Electoral Officer JS Mathur and submitted him a memorandum urging him to get the voters list and I-cards correct by organising special camp at the booth level. The delegation including state Election Committee Chairman Ajay Singh and leader of Opposition Jamuna devi besides others also demanded that action be taken against those officials involved in the exercise of preparing the list and the I cards as well. 

Talking to media persons after submitting memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer, Pachauri said that officers not bureaucracy were responsible for this laxity and alleged that the BJP-led state government was responsible for the widespread errors in the electoral rolls. He said that that Election Commission should ensure all the eligible names in electoral rolls and remove the ineligibles' names. Asking about the Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh's and Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh's statement over 'loyalty', he said that now the matter was closed.

Talking over the party's statewide agitation, being started from today, he said that Congress would raise against corruption did by BJP-led state government and promises made by the regime and but never consolidated. The agitation would be continued till May 20 and Pachhouri would take part on Tuesday. Pachouri said that after the verdict delivered by state High Court in much-debated corruption involved in dumper purchase case against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan proved that the issue raised by leader of opposition in state Assembly Jamuna Devi hold water. “On BJP senior leader Venkaiyah's statement for not extracting donation from ministers itself revealed that it was being extracted earlier,” Pachhouri alleged.
