SP, Left to launch a joint campaign

Bhopal, Apr 13: The Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Left would launch a joint campaign on April 18 across the State to protest against the rising inflation and failure of governments to control it. The BJP also demanded the UPA-led Central Government to come out with a white paper on the issue.

According to a statement issued here on Sunday, the SP stated that sit-ins, demonstrations and other programmes would be organised at division, district and tehsil level as a part of the campaign that would continue till April 23. Under the campaign, fashion and magic show, garib bhoj (feast for poor) and 'mushaira' would be organised. The campaign would demand strengthening of public distribution system of the Centre, restoration of old quota of States bringing pulses, oilseeds and sugar and other items under its ambit.

The SP demanded implementation of recommendations of a parliamentary committee to ban 25 agricultural commodities for forward trading. BJP Economic Cell State president and renowned economist Sharad Jain through an official release blamed the Central Government for bowing down before the price hike. He criticised the Prime Minister for his statement wherein he claimed it is impossible to check the rising inflation. Speaking on the Prime Minister's statement, the BJP leader said the price hike has brought to the fore the Government's feebleness and lack of vision. He demanded a white paper from the Government over rising inflation.
