7-member CID team to probed suicide

Bhopal, May 13: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has formed a seven-member team to investigate the ‘abetment to commit suicide’ case related to the suicide by police inspector Ramakant Bajpai. The team would submit detailed report in this connection within 15 days to Additional DG (CID) Nandan Dube.

The team led by AIG RS Belwanshi comprises DSP Samir Yadav, inspector Sunita Kaneliyas, SI Ajita Nair and three other inspectors. These officials would investigate under the guidance of IG (CID) Rajendra Kumar. The team members are slated to reach Bhind on Wednesday to record statements of few persons whose names have been included in the suicide note of Bajpai. The CID officials would begin investigation on Wednesday by cross-examining the facts and scrutinizing the report submitted by the investigating officer (IO). Reports of handwriting experts and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) will also be examined to make certain the circumstances and scene of crime.

“The matter has come as a shame to the police department; stringent actions will be taken against the guilty. Name of senior police officials that are getting linked up with the suspected woman constable is further making it more complicated and sensitive”, said PHQ sources. Notably, Bajpai was found in a gasping condition in his room at a guesthouse on May 7 and died after few hours while undergoing treatments. Bajpai, in his suicide note mentioned names of senior police officials having links with the women constable Kamlesh Mishra. The constable’s brother and mother were also accused of harassing and blackmailing the TI, mentioned in his note.

Since, the suicide note mentioning names of many senior officials was open to all, it gradually becomes clear that the police officers whose names were mentioned in it were obliging Kamlesh Mishra and pressuring Bajpai to provide financial assistance to her, viewed officials of the district police. Bajpai’s widow demanded a CBI probe to punish the people responsible for her husband’s death. Sensing the gravity of issue, top cops directed a CID inquiry that would begin its investigation after receiving the case documents, in a day or two.
