600 couples tie nuptial knot

Indore, Apr 14: The largest ever mass marriage ceremony was held at Indore on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami on Monday where 600 couples of different sections of society tied the nuptial knot. Over 1.25 lakh people including the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other public representatives were present on the occasion. The ceremony was organized jointly by the district administration and Yuva Bhartiya Sangathan.

The Chief Minister blessed the newly wed couples and wished them a happy married life. He said that the state government is committed to welfare of weaker sections including women. He assured that no effort would be spared in this direction. Spiritual Guru Mata Kanakeshwari also blessed the new couples. She said that service of people is like worship. The Minister for Public Works Department Kailash Vijaywargiya also spoke on the occasion. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Sant Vipul Shashtri, Bhagwatdas Maharaj, Computer Baba, Mahant Ghanshyamdas Maharaj, chairman of Khadi and Gramaudyog Satyanarayan Sattan, MLA Manoj Patel, chairman of Indore Development Authority Madhu Verma and Ramesh Mendola.

The mass marriage ceremony was held during the Shatchandi Mahayajna, which added to its importance. The new couples, their parents and near and dear ones were visibly happy on this happy coincidence. Gifts worth Rs 10,000 each were given to the newly wed couples by the state government with public cooperation. These include almirahs, beds, Mangal Sutra, utensils etc. Over one lakh people were treated to delicious food on the occasion.
