Criminology conference at NLIU from Jan 18

Bhopal, Jan 15: The Draft proposal of the National Criminal justice Policy would be presented during the proposed All India Criminology conference at National Law Institute University, Bhopal from January 18 to 20. The meet for the first time in the country would pitch for devising Victim Justice System. More than 500 delegates along with the law experts from India and abroad would participate in the function to discuss issues like the law against rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment of women, children and dalits etc.

Officials of NLIU on Tuesday while interacting with the media persons informed that 31st All India Criminology Conference would held from January 18-20, organized by Indian Society of Criminology, Mumbai .A total of 204 research papers dealing with subjects like crime against women and children, cyber crimes and devising victim justice within the law system would be presented by law experts and students. The highlight of the function would be presentation of draft proposal on National Criminal Justice policy by former National Judicial Academy Director Professor NR Madhava Menon.

There would be presentations by law experts from South Africa, USA, Bangladesh, Israel, Italy and etc on various aspects of crime. First Female IPS Officer Kiran Bedi would receive Kumarappa- Reckless Award, highest award in the country in the field of criminal justice system. Officials of MP Woman and Child Development Department, police officers and Jail Officials of various states would also participate in the programme.

NLIU officials informed that emphasis would be to pitch for victim justice system in the country where as at present the law system is criminal based. They also assured to recommend for witnesses rights and proper compensation for the victims of atrocities. Informing about the earlier recommendations, officials informed that they have long back recommended for community policing, anti crime drives as adopted by various states, victim compensation fund as established by Tamil Nadu and various jail reforms.
