Research needed in construction field

Bhopal, Mar 15: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that research should be undertaken constantly in the sphere of construction and new techniques should be used liberally. He was addressing the inaugural session of Indian Building Congress' national seminar at Indore. Public Works and Information Technology Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya was also present. Chief Minister Chouhan said that engineers face the challenge of undertaking quality construction works with less cost and within less time.

Chouhan said that infrastructure development works in Madhya Pradesh have gathered momentum. New dams and roads are being constructed. But completing these works within the deadline is a big challenge. We want to construct a school building soon in every village. World is changing fast. Frequent researches are being made in the sphere of construction and new techniques are being undertaken. He said that we want to turn Indore-Bhopal road into a road of international standard. This seminar would go a long way in suggesting ways and means for development at a rapid pace. A system has been launched in the state for monthly and weekly monitoring of construction works. He said that Indore city is also developing fast.

Public Works Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said that the development made after independence was no systematic. Farsightedness and quality both are necessary ingredients of development. It must be pondered as to why India has lagged behind in race of development. He said that infrastructure development has seen great changes during the last eight to ten years. Giving credit of this phenomenon to former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Vijayvargiya said that the last decade turned out to be more revolutionary than 40 years before that period. He said that there is boom in every field of construction. The same spirit of development has been maintained in Madhya Pradesh.

Vijayvargiya said that since the state has now 72,000 kilometre roads, the budget of Public Works Department has been increased from Rs 450 crore to Rs 2500 to Rs 3000 crore. Vijayvargiya urged the experts attending Indian Building Congress seminar to undertake a tour of Indore city on board the novel vehicles city bus and give their suggestions for city's development. They must also do the same in every city where their seminar is held.

At the outset, vice-president of Indian Building Congress KK Kapila addressed the function while Indore Development Authority chairman Madhu Verma delivered the welcome address.

Chief Minister Chouhan also released a souvenir published in connection with the seminar. The programme was conducted by Kamlesh Pare. Indian Building Congress honorary secretary Pradeep Mittal proposed a vote of thanks. Those present on the occasion included Indore Mayor Uma Shashi Sharma, Indore Development Authority chairman Madhu Verma, MLA Mahendra Hardiya, Indore Municipal Corporation Chairman Shankar Lalwani, Public Works Department Principal Secretary PD Meena and others.
