State Congress office hopes to see better days

Bhopal, Feb 18: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) is hoping to see better days under newly appointed PCC chief Suresh Pachauri. During Subhash Yadav’s era, the MPCC was a picture of neglect. The office bearers were always missing with little activity. Moreover, the Congress committee witnessed infighting, physical fight and differences over trivial issues. Recently, two office bearers had come to blow.

Prior to moving new building, in old building even lift was not working, 33 per cent of employees were sacked and spokesmen were asked to pay for holding press conference in the building. Being the hub of hectic political activity till 2003, the Madhya Pradesh Congress unit office witnessed struggle to make ends meet. Till Pachauri arrived here, the new office bore a stark and deserted look minus the bustle generally associated with a political party. It witnessed crowd only on few occasions when the party won a few by-elections. Former General Secretary and Spokesman of the party Manak Agrawal was the only office bearer who quite regular to the office. Whether any occasion of jubilant or not, his timings in the office were decided.

Sources said that this punctuality rewarded Manak, as he is in complete power now. Even at the press conference, Pachauri addressed him as party spokesman, besides the fact that the PCC is yet to be announced. Now, a new look is being given to the PCC office. The office of Pachauri is being established on the third floor and a lift is being installed in the office, which was being awaited since the building was constructed a couple of years’ ago. Party sources also claimed that the salaries of 25 employees have been hiked. Earlier, former PCC president Subhash Yadav had sacked 35 employees with a plea that the party was facing financial crunch. Manak Agrawal told that old dues of the employees have been cleared. He said, “Pachauriji has asked the employees to work whole-heartedly and he would take care of them.”
