Concern over unplanned urbanization
Bhopal, Mar 20: Noted industrialists of Madhya Pradesh expressed serious concerns over issues like the choking unplanned urbanization of India having a prismatic development were expressed. They were speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) celebrated its Annual Day on Thursday by organizing a session on ‘Madhya Pradesh Infrastructure-the road ahead’.
Subhash Vithaldas, Chairman of CII Madhya Pradesh State council and Director of Permali Wallace Pvt Ltd said that infrastructure is the basic pillar for the economic as well as social development of any state because it provides essential services. “Today, due the prismatic and layered development taking place in India, various groups of people are co-exiting here with different financial affordability capacities, so now urbanization has to be dealt with new vision; more planned and prudent,” he added. Shrinivas V Dempo, CII Western Region Chairman and Managing Director, VS Dempo & Co Pvt Limited said, “We need to increase the local partnership which is called as the Public Private Partnership, (PPP). We also need to address to the level of activity as we have inadequate manufacturing and construction capacity.”
Pratap Verma, Industrial Advisor to Government of Madhya Pradesh made a presentation highlighting infrastructure potential of Madhya Pradesh. On his Key note Address on ‘Urban Infrastructure’ S Sridhar, chairman and Managing Director of National Housing Bank said, “In exponentially growing upper middle class housing boom we need to phenomenally make it accessible for the lower income group.” He also mentioned that the urban infrastructure is growing at a high rate of from 5 percent to 12 percent and the private sector has to take a deep interest in it as it accounts for 40 percent. The session ended with questions being raised on the environmental concerns by some delegates. A large group of industry, institutions, associations, academician and government officials attended the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Annual session.
