Congress leaders have wider agenda in the two by-elections

Bhopal, Dec 07: The Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders have wider agenda in the two by-elections scheduled next week. Most senior party leaders are going through the motion with a hope to position themselves in the post by-election scenario. Several aspirants for replacing state Congress chief Subhash Yadav, reached Khargone, where Yadav’s son Arun Yadav in the fray. If Arun is defeated, Subhash would have little option but to quit from the office. They are putting their best foot forward to show that there is nothing left for Arun’s victory, to show unity among the party leaders.

Since both Khargone Lok Sabha and Sanwer assembly seats were of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main opposition in state assembly Congress would have least concerned to win these by-elections, but this is a chance for Congress to look at the future leadership. In Khargone, State Congress president Subhash Yadav left no stone unturned to win the seat even by inviting his rivals for canvassing in the constituency. This is for the first time in past four years when Yadav is extending hands towards his rivals.

Similarly, Member of Parliament from Guna Jyotiraditya Scindia whose states are high in Sanwer assembly by-poll, as his candidate Tulsiram Silawat is in the fray as a party candidate. Scindia has also invited his rival group leader Ajay Singh for canvassing in the constituency. The political observers find it strange as in the recent past; factionalism was witnessed in the party during by-elections held in past three years.

The leaders attempted for the defeat of other leaders’ candidates in their home-turfs. Political observes view this exercise an effort to get in motion not for wining the by-elections, but to prepare a ground for future leadership in Madhya Pradesh. It is a known fact that almost all the big leaders including Union Ministers Kamal Nath and Suresh Pachouri, Jyotiraditya Scindia are eying Madhya Pradesh, since assembly elections are coming nearer. Similarly, the Arjun Singh group is also working for his son Ajay Singh to come up as a strong leader in the state.
