Chouhan agrees to take up adjournment motion

Bhopal, Nov 27: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has agreed to take up a Congress-sponsored adjournment motion in the Assembly on purchase of four dumpers in his wife's name. After the house re-assembled for the third time following two brief adjournments today, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani read out the motion sought to be moved by Arif Aqueel of Congress.

Amid pandemonium caused by the entire opposition raising slogans- in the well of the house- demanding Chouhan's resignation, the Chief Minister rose to convey the government's readiness to discuss it. However, nothing was audible in the din. Later, the Speaker rushed through official business in ten minutes pointing out that the opposition did not seem serious in taking up the adjournment motion. The stalemate resulted as the opposition remained firm seeking Chouhan's resignation as the Lokayukt Special Police Establishment had registered a first information report (FIR) against him and his wife for alleged corruption in purchase of four dumpers that were later hired out to the Rewa-based JP Cement company. The FIR was registered following the directive of a local special court. JP Cement Company Director Sunny Gaud and Rewa's Regional Transport Officer were also named in the FIR.
