Rahul Gandhi gives chance for interaction
Bhopal, Mar 23: "It was only with the efforts of Rahul Gandhi that I could interact with senior party leaders at All India Congress Committee (AICC) office in New Delhi," said an NSUI activist from Bhopal. Early this month, he along with 28 other activists of National Students Union of India (NSUI) were called at AICC office to face interview during the exercise being done by AICC General Secretary and Youth Affairs in charge Rahul Gandhi.
In view strengthening the party, Rahul has initiated efforts to select important activists from NSUI and Youth Congress. He has formed a core committee to conduct interviews. The committee includes Sachin Pilot, Narayan Sami, Meenakshi Natrajan, Mukul Wasnik, Jagdish Tytler, Nadeem Javed and Ashok Gehlot. The NSUI activists feel that they always worked at ground level, but could not get a chance to speak to senior leadership. He alleged, "Local leaders never allow us to reach out to senior ones. We always complied the orders of our leaders," he added. One of those interviewed by Mukul Wasnik said, "I worked with him for years in the state, but considered him as a proud leader, but on interacting with him face to face I found him quite simple."
Party sources claimed that selected candidates were interviewed in view of forming Rahul brigade in each state including appointment of new state president of NSUI and Youth Congress. On the line of NSUI, Youth Congress leaders and senior leadership that worked in youth wing during Sanjay Gandhi were also invited for discussions in Delhi. As many as 70 Youth Congress leaders were interviewed on March 12. The NSUI activists were asked as how they solve the problems of students at college campus, university and technical education premises. On the other hand, Youth Congress leaders were asked as how they are going to play important role in upcoming assembly elections.
