Gufran-e-Azam resigns as executive member
Bhopal, Mar 24: Senior Congress leader Gufran-e-Azam on Monday resigned from the post of Executive member in Madhya Pradesh Congress alleging that he was inducted in the state Congress Committee as executive member without his consent. Annoyed with his appointment in PCC as executive members, Gufran told media persons at his residence that he was unable to tolerate this, and decided to resign from the post. “I am the senior most leader, from Madhya Pradesh and how can I be given such a small post that too without my consent,” he added.
Political observers believe that Gufran’s raising voice against party might affect Betul Lok Sabha by-election as Gufran had been Member of Parliament from Betul. Meanwhile, District Congress president Zahir Ahmed has termed the step of Gufran as opportunism. “In good times of Congress, he has been on good posts. At the time, when he is needed for Betul by-election, his resignation indicates his mentality,” he added. Ahmed further stated that in the big party like Congress, every decision is taken in democratic manner and thus it is not possible to get decisions pleasing all. He also condemned the language used by Gufran stating that the high command has appointed Suresh Pachauri as PCC chief in view of fighting with bad governance of BJP. “We lakhs of party workers are with him and enthusiastic to work under him,” he added.
