Prdhi issue raised in NHRC meet

Bhopal, Mar 24: Pardhi issue was raised during the national seminar of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) held on Monday in Delhi. Chairman of MP Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) raised the issue while laying suggestions for model rehabilitation policy. The national seminar was organized to prepare a policy for proper relief and rehabilitation of displaced persons. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil also attended the seminar.

The Chairman of the MPHRC DM Dharmadhikari while speaking in the first session of the seminar threw light on Chothia incident wherein hundreds of pardhis were driven out of village in September 2007 after alleged rape of a woman by a few pardhis. Enraged villagers after the incident, set houses of pardhis ablaze and razed the village to rubbles using bulldozer. A pardhi couple was also found dead after the barbaric treatment. Justice Dharmadhikari also raised issues related with maoist-infested districts including Balaghat during the seminar.

Representatives of all the Commissions across the country attended the seminar organized to forward suggestions for chalking out model rehabilitation policy. Importantly, the MPHRC Chairman addressed the first session of the national seminar and suggested to prevent displacement of people on priority basis. He also laid emphasis on preparing displacement and rehabilitation policy so that the poor were not deprived of their rights.
