16 killed, 10 injured in bus-truck collision

Bhopal, Jan 28: As many as 16 persons were killed and 10 others are seriously injured when a bus collided with a truck near Guna district town on Monday. The state government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 to kin of each diseased. The private bus was on its way to Kumbhraj from Guna when the mishap occurred around 10 km from Guna. While seven died on the spot, the rest succumbed to their injuries in the district hospital in Guna.

The seriously injured were shifted to Gwalior, police said. All the victims were travelling in the bus. According to the passengers, police said, the main reason behind the accident was that the drivers of both the vehicles lost control over the steering at the blind turn, and the mishap occurred. This is reported to be the most fatal accident in the history of Guna. Superintendent of Police Yogesh Choudhary said that all the injured have been admitted to hospital and seven succumbed during treatment, adding that the condition of five injured was critical. Heavy machines were used to open the entangled remains of the two vehicles, he added.

According to official sources, a few injured were rushed to Gwalior for further treatment. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has offered condolences to the relatives of those killed in a bus-truck collision at noon today near Guna. Chief Minister Chouhan has instructed the district administration to provide Rs 50,000 each to next of kin of the deceased and ensure proper medicare to those injured.
