Prohibitory orders imposed in Sarangpur
Rajgarh, Mar 28: Additional police force has been deployed in this district's Sarangpur after tehsil headquarters for the prohibitory orders imposed on following violence triggered during Rangpanchami on March 26. The situation was under control and 70 jawans of Additional police force and special task force have been deployed. No untoward incident was reported so far.
Besides sharp-edged weapons, betting slips worth Rs one crore were seized during the search campaign. With the help of police Sarangpur Municipal Corporation had demolished the houses, which were built through encroachment by the agitators on Wednesday night. Tension prevailed in the town following stone pelting incident on a procession, which was passing through a religious place during Rangpanchami. Eleven people were injured in this regard while one seriously injured was rushed to the Indore for treatment. A total of 24 people were arrested.
Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh today alleged that pro-Hindu organisations were playing an active role in planned attempts to flare up communal tension in this state. Singh while talking to media persons here on Friday said, “Posters printed in the name of the Muslim Tyohar Committee were put up recently in Vidisha district's Sironj and led to communal tension. The posters interpreted Hindu religious texts. After police seized the posters, a rumour spread that posters linked to a Sirat-un-Nabi procession were being disrespected.”
Alleging that political pressure made police register false cases against members of a certain community, Singh said that the Congress wanted a high-level inquiry into the Sironj incident. Reacting to several office-bearers and workers of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India being arrested at Indore on Thursday, he said, “During my chief ministership I sent a proposal to the Centre to ban the SIMI and Bajrang Dal.” Pointing out that, in a recent letter to chief ministers, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said that the form of places of worship should remain unaltered, Singh said that was not the case in this state.
