Green Tribunal bench soon in Bhopal

Bhopal: A bench of National Green Tribunal is going to be set up at Bhopal for disposing of cases pertaining to environment and forest conservation laws. Circuit Court of the Tribunal held its first meeting at Bhopal in this connection today and also heard an appeal. It may be mentioned that National Green Tribunal was established in 2010. It speedily disposes of cases registered under laws pertaining to conservation of forests and environment as well natural resources. The Tribal also carries the responsibility of implementing environment-related laws and providing compensation in cases of loss of life and property to affected families. The National Green Tribunal headquartered at New Delhi is going to establish its permanent benches at Bhopal, Pune, Chennai and Kolkata. It will also establish its Circuit Branches with a view to extend its access to people. Through the Circuit Branches efforts are being undertaken to reduce burden on higher courts of the country.
Arrangements have been made by National Green Tribunal to dispose of cases within six months from the date of applications and appeals. The Tribunal has started working actively at the New Delhi headquarter since May 2011 and has given its decisions on several appeals. An appeal was also heard at the first Circuit Court of the Tribunal at Bhopal. This appeal was Jan-Chetna Vs Union of India and Messrs Senia Steel and Power Limited situated at Raipur (Chhattisgarh) in connection with an environmental approval.
