VCs demand syllabi of media studies practical
Bhopal: The syllabus of the media studies should be such that the students can utilize it in their career. It was the unanimous view of all the vice-chancellors and the departmental head of Journalism who participated in the daylong seminar on ‘Media Studies: Challenges Ahead’ being organized by Makhanlal Chaturavedi National University of Journalism here on Tuesday. SM Paul Khurana, Vice-Chancellor of Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur said that the syllabus of the journalism courses in different universities should be modernized.
Witnesses remain absent in passport case
Bhopal: Absence of witnesses today forced a local court to postpone recording of statements in a fake passports case wherein underworld don Abu Salem and his starlet girlfriend Monica Bedi are among the accused. Accused-turned-government witness Shiraz submitted an application demanding security. Monica was present before Chief Judicial Magistrate Raveendra Singh. Defence Counsel PC Bedi pleaded that a perjury case be registered against Shiraz whose advocate said, “There is a threat to his life as he is now a government witness.
Death threat to ex-minister, family
Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh minister Aidal Singh Kansana and his family have been issued a death threat by dacoit chieftain Jagjivan Parihar, who carries a reward of Rs 5 lakh and is active on the Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan borders. The security detail was consequently enhanced at the Kansana residence. ''The threat was issued from a cellphone on Monday and the caller claimed his identity as Parihar.
Decision to privatize farms and nurseries
Bhopal: The state cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here significant decisions regarding conduct of unprofitable agricultural farms and nurseries with private participation. Chemical fertilizers distribution policy, Madhya Pradesh grape processing industry policy, encouraging thermal power plants and division of shareholding of Provident Investment Company Ltd between Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh were also decided.

Scindia to hold farmers’ convention
Bhopal: Congress Member of Parliament from Guna Jyotiraditya Scindia is conducting farmers’ convention at Aron (Guna district) on December 6. This is being considered another instance of groupism in Madhya Pradesh Congress. Aron falls under Guna district and was part of Guna parliamentary constituency during the first election of late Madhavrao Scindia in 1971. At present Aron comes under the Raghogarh assembly constituency of former Chief Minister and AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh.
MP govt to move SC for police reforms
Bhopal: In view of implementing the police reforms as per the directives of Supreme Court, the Madhya Pradesh government is considering to put forth its point of view seeking more time to get prepared for implementing reforms in state police. In its order of September 22, the Supreme Court had directed all the State Government to implement reforms in police for bringing in improvement in the functioning. As per directives, the reforms have to be implemented by January 3, 2007.
Peaceful Polling in Pandhana
Bhopal: Polling in the Pandhana by-election was by and large peaceful on Monday and over 55 percent electorates used their franchise. There were allegations from the opposition of influencing the voters, but they were found baseless. Returning officer for the election, Nikunj Shrivastava said that the poll percentage could increase a bit after final reports are received from polling officers. There have been no reports of any untoward incident from the constituency,' he added.
First International airport in Indore
Bhopal: Overcoming all the hurdles of administrative and technological procedures, Madhya Pradesh will have its first international airport at its commercial capital Indore by the last quarter of the next financial year. However, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has clarified that the completion of the project depends on the district administration of Indore as to how fast it transfers the land necessary to be acquired for airport expansion project. Notably, the AAI had demanded more than 300 acres of land for the projects.
Body of Lt Col Jha reaches Bhopal
Bhopal: The body of Lieutenant Colonel Pankaj Jha, who allegedly shot himself at 15 Sector Rashtriya Rifles Headquarters at Mahore on Friday arrived at the Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal on Sunday evening by the regular Indian flight from Delhi. The wooden coffin was shifted by tractor-trolley from the plane to a truck from the 3 Electronics and Mechanical Engineers Centre in nearby Bairagarh even as uniformed officers, jawans and mediapersons thronged the airport.
