PPT exams conducted peacefully

Bhopal: Barring few problems in admit cards, downloaded from the official website of the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), the Pre Polytechnic Test (PPT) was conducted smoothly across the state here on Sunday. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) was also conducted in the city on Sunday. The PPT was held from 10 am to 1.15 pm at 22 cities across the state, at 142-odd test centres and with 65000 candidates.

Scheme to achieve millennium goals

Bhopal: With a view to accelerating the process of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in five districts of Madhya Pradesh a joint convergence scheme of the United Nations and Government of India was launched here today. In the presence of the Finance and Planning Minister Raghavji a MoU was signed between the State Planning Commission and the UN for implementation of the scheme. The vice-president of Jan Abhiyan Parishad was special guest on the occasion. The scheme would be implemented in Khargone, Rajgarh, Chhatarpur, Mandla and Satna districts.

Bamboos to farmers on retail

Bhopal: A decision has been taken to supply bamboos to farmers through retail sale. Minister of State (Independent charge) of Forest, Mineral Resources, Biodiversity & Biotechnology, Law and Legal Affairs Rajendra Shukla has instructed for supply of one to two-metre pieces to farmers through retails sale for the next two years from government depots. Shukla has said that this important decision will further facilitate farmers. He informed that no such system was in place earlier, the farmers had to purchase long bamboos at the rate of Rs 5 per metre, which was quite costly for them.

World Bank team inspects irrigation projects

Bhopal: A team of World Bank is on the tour of the State for inspecting Madhya Pradesh Water Sector Restructuring Project. The project aiming at modernization of old canals and reservoirs is being conducted with the help of the World Bank. Modernisation of as many as 505 irrigation projects is underway utilizing Rs 1919 crore assistance from the World Bank. Leader of World Bank team Xavier Juleta is accompanied by experts of agriculture, fisheries, fiscal management etc. since the team is reviewing these aspects also apart from technical works of the project.

Debries of Cessna 172 plane found

Bhopal: After almost two months of extensive search operation, the debris of the Cessna 172 plane and the body of trainee pilot, which had crashed into the Bargi dam in on April 6, has been recovered by the authorities. After finding the debris on Thursday, the plane was fished out along with the body of the pilot on Friday. On Thursday, the team of Sea Lion Diving Services Ltd, Vishakapatnam managed to find Cesna’s wreckage from the deep waters in Bargi dam.

Gwalior reeling under water crisis

Gwalior: Faced with acute water crisis, residents in Gwalior are forced to queue from midnight at the community taps to collect water for their use. Besides rising mercury level and surging temperature, improper timings of water supply has made life more miserable for them.
“There is no proper timings for the water supply. The timings are quite odd and we have to wake up the whole night to fetch water. Sometimes it comes at 1:00 am, sometimes at 2:00 or 3:00 am or sometimes even we don't get water at all. But we will have to wake up the whole night for water,” said a resident Rachna Dube.

Suspected terrorist arrested

Morena: Madhya Pradesh's Anti-Terrorist Squad, in a joint operation with the police personnel, has apprehended a suspected terrorist, who was on the run for eight years after planting a bomb in the Chennai Express.
“On a tip-off, Ishaq Khan -- who planted the device on May 20, 2000, in the train that passes this district headquarters -- was nailed last night in Madhavganj area. The accused was presented in a court today and remanded to four days' police custody,” Superintendent of Police Amrit Meena said here.

Indian banking system did well: Minister

Bhopal: Finance Minister Raghavji said that despite global financial crisis, the Indian Banking system has done well to withstand the impact. However, the economy of the country as well as the State economy has been affected to some extent and the adverse effect of the slow down is likely to be felt at least for the next one year.
