Cousins drown in river

Narsinghpur, May 05: Two cousins drowned in Narmada River while taking holy bath on the occassion of Somwati Amavasya, 50 km from here today, police said. Mahendra Uike (10) along with Yashwant Singh (12) and his mother took bath in the river. After bath, the minors were filling water in the bottles for drinking purpose but drowned accidentally.

 

Freedom fighter dies

Mandsaur, May 05: Veteran freedom fighter and Azad Hind Fauz volunteer Thakur Nain Singh died at his residence here last night after a brief illness. He was 89. After the freedom struggle, Singh had joined government service and retired as District Commandant, Home Guards.

 

Flesh trade busted

Indore, May 05: Nine people, including four women, have been arrested during a raid on a lodge here on the charge of indulging in flesh trade, police said. Objectionable material and obscene literature were seized. Lodge owner Pawan Prajapati was among those arrested.

Bhopal, Mat 05: Madhya Pradesh government has decided to come up with a novel method of propagating its schemes and programmes throughout the state. In the election year, BJP government’s ‘Vikas Rath’ has Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan propagating at cause. These cine stars are being screened through blockbusters Chak De India, Muna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and Tare Zamin Par in different parts of the state.

 

DMAT likely to be deferred

Bhopal, Mat 05: The date for the Dental and Medical Entrance Test (DMAT) might have to be shifted further following the recent government decision of implementing the reservation quota in the private medical and dental colleges. The test for allotting seats in the private medical and dental colleges is scheduled for May 25. The Association of Private Medical Colleges of the State conducts the test.

 

BHEL starts ‘Anandam’ in township

Bhopal, Mat 05: After inaugurating ‘Anandam’, an old-age home in BHEL premises, Anil Sachdeva, Director (Human Resources) of the BHEL appreciated the novel step taken by Executive Director, BHEL Bhopal. He called it to be an example not only for other units of BHEL, but for the entire Industry Sector in the country. He said that the aged people today need more of love and kindness from us than economic assistance.

 

Rs 3,500 crore jail modernization plan

Bhopal, Mat 05: A whopping sum of Rs 3,500 crore would be spent under five-year plan for modernization of jails across the country. The state would get about Rs 368 crore under the plan. A major chunk of provisioned sum would be used in increasing capacity of jails while remaining portion would be used in improving housing facilities for inmates, implementing reforms and modernization proposals. 

 

School Chalen Abhiyan soon

Bhopal, Mat 05: A School Chalen Abhiyan would be carried out for enrolment of non-schoolgoing and dropout tribal children in schools. The Tribal Welfare Department has drawn up an action plan for year 2008-09 for this purpose. Under this, a campaign would be conducted in May and June to motivate parents of such children to send them to school.
