Assembly session curtailed

Bhopal, Mar 17: The Madhya Pradesh Assembly's budget session is being curtailed and the house will be adjourned sine die on March 19 in place of April 4 as scheduled earlier. The Business Advisory Committee's report was read out by Speaker Ishwardas Rohani on Monday.

PR policy soon

Bhopal, Mar 17: Madhya Pradesh Mineral Resource, Public Relations and Culture Minister Laxmikant Sharma on Monday informed the Assembly that a new public relations policy would be announced soon. Replying to a debate on budgetary demands for his departments, he said, “Media persons' suggestions have been accorded pride of place in the policy.”

Police station set afire

Bhopal, Mar 17: Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Gadarwara town of Narsinghpur district on Monday, after the local residents barged into the police station and set its furniture afire. The police opened five-round of fires and lobbed teargas shells to control the mob.

Bhopal, Mar 17: Madhya Pradesh Congress circles are intrigued as why a tribal has not been fielded from Betul Lok Sabha constituency in by-election. This constituency would change into a tribal reserve constituency in the next general elections. In a high-level party meeting held at New Delhi, the name of Congress legislator from Masaud Sukhdev Panse has been finalized for contesting by-election. Panse belongs to Kunbi community which has dominance in the constituency.

Rajya Sabha nominations in order

Bhopal, Mar 17: All four candidates' nomination papers were found to be in order today during scrutiny for biennial elections to three Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh. Scrutiny was undertaken by Principal Secretary (Assembly) AK Payasi, who is also the returning officer. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is 1500 hrs on March 19. Polling is scheduled between 9 am and 4 pm on March 28.

Rs 309 cr distributed under insurance

Bhopal, Mar 17: Madhya Pradesh Cooperative Minister Gopal Bhargava on Monday informed the state Assembly that Rs 309 crore has been distributed to farmers under the National Agriculture Insurance Scheme this year. Replying to supplementary questions by Narayan Tripathi (Samajwadi Party) during the Question Hour, Bhargava said a premium of Rs 211 crore has been provided to the concerned insurance company.

House adjourned over Jamuna’s remark

Bhopal, Mar 17: The Madhya Pradesh Assembly was on Monday adjourned for ten minutes after the ruling BJP members created a ruckus over alleged objectionable comments about women made by Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi.

Efforts to overcome power crisis: CM

Bhopal, Mar 17: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the state government is making all out efforts to tide over the power crisis. He said that despite power crisis, we have been able to supply power in a better way than other states of the country. The Chief Minister expressed these views while inaugurating a seminar at Hotel Palash Residency on the subject of generation of power with biomass and other alternative resources, impediments and redressal.
