Chhatarpur, Jan 22: Union Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal today claimed that the Centre was providing all possible assistance to naxalism-affected states. “The problem has been brought under considerable control in Andhra Pradesh but that is not the case in Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand,” he told media persons.

 

Constable suspended

Gwalior, Jan 22: A police constable, who was found playing cards with few others at the Kotwali police station premises of Shivpuri on Saturday, has been suspended. Superintendent of Police DC Sharma has suspended constable Pavan Kumar Jain, official sources said.

 

Auction of diamonds

Panna, Jan 22: Auction of diamonds, scheduled here from January 21 to 24, has been postponed to February due to strike by clerical staff at mines. A 15 carat gem variety diamond, found by a stone quarry labourer last month, was among 263 diamonds together weighing 174.11 carat to be put up for auction.

Bhopal, Jan 22: Minister of State for Home Himmat Kothari is in controversy over ‘greeting’ people of Ratlam town, on the festival of Muharram. His supporters and pro-BJP Muslim leaders have put a hoarding in this connection with Kothari's picture. Local people of both Shia and Sunni communities felt offended as Muharram marks ten-day mourning period in remembrance of the sacrifices made by Prophet Mohammad's grandsons in the battle of Karbala.

 

CM demands Rs 1548 cr for drought-hit areas

Bhopal, Jan 22: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met the Prime Minister Manmohan at his office in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Chief Minister submitted a memorandum to Pawar asking for a sum of Rs 1541 crores to tackle the drought affected regions of the state. He also requested for a package of Rs 22,250 crores as a special development programme to deal with drought in the long term.

 

Financial aid from CM’s discretionary fund

Bhopal, Jan 22: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given succor to many a hapless victim of sudden illness and calamities by providing them relief from his voluntary fund. Chouhan has provided grants worth Rs 9.57 lakh to 72 needy persons and Rs 2.17 lakh to 19 hapless victims during the period between December 28 and 31, 2007.

 

Uganda and Tanzania teams to review DPIP

Bhopal, Jan 22: A high-level study team of Uganda and Tanzania would pay a five-day visit to Madhya Pradesh from January 23. Members of the visiting team would inspect the field implementation of District Poverty Initiative Project (DPIP) being implemented by the state government with the cooperation of World Bank and would hold talks with the project's beneficiaries. The team members would also take part in a meeting to be held at Bhopal on January 27.

 

Vikas Rath Express in Gwalior-Chambal

Gwalior, Jan 22: Divisional Commissioner Komal Singh has flagged of a super fast development express “Vikas Rath” at Maharaj Bada on Tuesday.
