NSS units to villages at district level

Bhopal: Higher Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma chaired a meeting of state level advisory committee of National Service Scheme at the Mantralaya here today. The meeting decided that NSS units of colleges and universities will adopt ten villages in every district. Efforts of sanitation and total development will be undertaken in these villages as models.
The meeting was attended by vice-chancellors of Barkatullah and Vikram universities, Principal Secretary Higher Education Jaideep Govind, Commissioner Higher Education Ashish Upadhyaya and representatives of Jabalpur, Gwalior, Rewa, Indore and Sagar universities, Higher Education and Technical Education department, Red Cross, Panchayat and Rural Development Department and Government of India. The Higher Education Minister instructed that NSS should be introduced in technical education colleges as well. District level committees should be constituted for conducting NSS programmes. The organisation should also undertake programmes for creating awareness about the government's welfare schemes. Crisis management cells should be constituted at university level for tackling natural calamities. Training to NSS cadets should be imparted in crisis management. Campaign should be launched for clean and green Madhya Pradesh.
The meeting also decided that this year's state level camp of NSS will be organised on February 21, 2010 at Semalkheri in Vidisha district. Instructions were also given to construct the NSS building on the premises of Barkatullah University. Higher Education Minister Sharma instructed university vice-chancellors to undertake regular inspections of the colleges under their respective jurisdiction. He instructed the NSS to develop one sports ground in every district as model ground. These sports grounds are being constructed by Sports and Youth Welfare Department at Panchayat level. Instructions were also given to remove tobacco and guthkha shops from near colleges. The meeting was informed that soon a calendar on NSS activities will be brought out.
