Efforts to improve technical education

Bhopal: Technical Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma has said that timely admission tests and counselling will be ensured with a view to increasing quality of technical education in the state. The government will extend its utmost cooperation to engineering colleges in their efforts for qualitative education. Sharma was addressing a workshop on 'excellence in private professional colleges not availing government grant' at Oriental Institute of Science and Technology here today.
The workshop was organised jointly of Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee and Association of Professional Institutes, Madhya Pradesh. The workshop was presided over by the Committee chairman PL Chaturvedi while vice-chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya Prof. Piyush Chaturvedi was the special guest. Technical Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma said that dates have been fixed for holding Pre-Engineering Test (PET) in the month of April. A decision about starting the counselling from June will be taken after consultations. He said that necessary amendments will be made in the rules keeping in view interests of both students and the institutions. He said that technical education is spreading fast in the state. The institutions should give special attention to qualitative education. With a view to developing models of technical development, private colleges should also adopt villages and work there.
Mentioning about students from northern states passing through Madhya Pradesh to other states for imbibing technical education, the minister said that such excellent and high-quality institutions and atmosphere should be created in Madhya Pradesh that these students are attracted towards the state. He also stressed on moral education along with technical education so that engineers can give their contribution with clean behaviour after joining services.
Describing skill development among youth as the top priority, the Technical Education Minister said that a Skill Development Mission is being formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. He suggested for organising a get-together of engineering colleges students working in the foreign countries. The Technical Education Minister congratulated the fee regulatory committee chairperson for holding this novel workshop.
