Efforts to conserve agriculture system
Bhopal: Farmers' Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said that every possible effort will be undertaken to conserve thousands years old agriculture system of Madhya Pradesh. An organic farming policy is going to be announced soon keeping this fact in view. Agriculture Development Minister Kusmaria expressed these views while talking to film actor Raza Murad, who paid a courtesy visit on him here on Monday.
Farmers' Welfare Minister Kusmaria said that Madhya Pradesh is not opposed to modern methods of farming. But a Western system, which may be detrimental to age old traditional Indian system of farming, will not be adopted in haste. He said that due to indiscriminate use of chemical fertlisers, soil fertility has decreased to a great extent during the last some years. Use of chemicals is also casting ill-effects on environment. The Agriculture Development Minister said that cow has been the axis of agriculture system in India and its use will be promoted to the maximum. Talking about Bt Brinjal, Kusmaria said that researches made on it are inconclusive and therefore, it should not be allowed. He said that brinjal is sown in 16 thousand hectares of land in the state and has 250 varieties. With a view to protecting these varieties, Bt Brinjal will not be permitted in Madhya Pradesh. Film actor Raza Murad lauded the efforts for promoting organic farming. These days, the demand for organic farm products has increased manifold worldwide. He assured to extend all possible help in the efforts for promoting organic farming in the state.
