Courses in organic farming soon

Bhopal: Farmers' Welfare Minister Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said that diploma and degree courses on the subject of organic farming are proposed to be started with a view to connecting educated rural youths to organic farming in the state. Private-public participation will also be promoted in this sector. A proposal to establish State Organic Farming Fund is also under consideration.

Govt for making agriculture profitable

Bhopal: The state government has taken the resolve of making agriculture profitable and keeping this in view has undertaken a number of decisions for farmers' welfare. In the series, a state level workshop will be held on February 20 at Central Agricultural Engineering Institute, Nabibagh, Bhopal on the subject 'role of farm implements in making agriculture profitable.

80 pc farmers own upto 2 acre land

Bhopal: Union Agriculture Commissioner Gurbachan Singh has said that more than 80 percent farmers in the country have lands up to 2 hectare. Out of these, 50 percent farmers do not have even one hectare agricultural land. Keeping the requirements of these farmers, such ideal agriculture modules should be developed which can help farmers to undertake activities relating to horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry etc apart from traditional farming.

Efforts to conserve agriculture system

Bhopal: Farmers' Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said that every possible effort will be undertaken to conserve thousands years old agriculture system of Madhya Pradesh. An organic farming policy is going to be announced soon keeping this fact in view. Agriculture Development Minister Kusmaria expressed these views while talking to film actor Raza Murad, who paid a courtesy visit on him here on Monday.

Soil health certificates to farmers

Bhopal: All the farmers in Madhya Pradesh will be given Soil Health Certificates in the next two years after conducting tests on the soil of their respective fields, which will help them determine the cycle of profitable crops. Efforts will be made to ensure two crops in maximum areas. Special programmes will be launched in all the districts to help farmers increase their income through related professions.

New organic policy of MP soon

Bhopal: Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said that the new organic policy of the state will be implemented soon. Integrated efforts will be made for making Madhya Pradesh an organic state. Kusmaria was addressing a meeting at village Pipri in Mhow development block of Indore district on Friday. The meeting was held for determining state's Organic Policy.

Rabi sowing in 88.36 lakh hectare

Bhopal: There are reports of Rabi sowing in 88.36 lakh hectare area so far in the Madhya Pradesh. This year, Rabi crops are to be sown in 92 lakh hectare area in the state. So far, farmers have sown wheat in 36 lakh hectare area. The crops also include gram in 30.90 lakh hectares, masoor (lentil) in 6.39 lakh hectares and mustard in 8.87 lakh hectare area. The area of rabi sowing is expected to increase by 8 lakh hectares due to good rains in the months of October and November.

Efforts to make MP organic state

Bhopal: Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said that integrated efforts will be undertaken to ensure identity of Madhya Pradesh as an organic state after formulation of the new organic policy. Such provisions will be enshrined in the organic policy that will help marginal farmers to adopt organic farming on a large scale. Kusmaria was addressing the second meeting of the committee set up to formulate the new organic policy of the state at Government Agriculture Farm at Phanda near here today.

Certified seeds to farmers

Bhopal: The Farmers Welfare Department is giving special attention to making certified seeds available to farmers for Rabi and Kharif seasons. The Agriculture Production Commissioner is constantly reviewing the arrangements of seed distribution for the Rabi season. During the last three years, the quantity of certified seeds distributed to farmers has been increased constantly. A total 11.57 lakh quintals of certified seeds were made available to farmers in the year 2007-08 and 14.068 lakh quintals in 2008-09.

Rs 3400 crore special package sought

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister, Ramkrishna Kusmaria has demanded Rs 3400 crore special package from the Union Government for agricultural operations to be taken up in the state in the wake of the situation emerging due to scanty rains. Kusmaria has also requested to sanction an amount of Rs 100 crore at the earliest in view of the paucity of funds for agriculture schemes being sponsored by the Central Government in Madhya Pradesh.
